1. Objective On-Course Testing
Unlike standard software review sites that test apps from a desktop browser, our editorial team evaluates golf applications directly on real courses across the United States. We test in diverse conditions: tree-lined courses with limited cellular coverage, extreme elevation shifts, multi-group scrambles, and bright direct sunlight.
2. The 100-Point Performance Index
Every application undergoes structured testing across five primary performance criteria, each weighted equally at 20 points for a maximum score of 100:
- GPS & Elevation Precision (20 Pts): Target accuracy compared against tour-grade laser rangefinders and real-time elevation slope calculation speed.
- Green Reading & LiDAR Contours (20 Pts): Topographical precision, slope heatmap readability, and dynamic break direction guidance.
- Multiplayer & Side Bets (20 Pts): Automation of game formats (Skins, Nassau, Wolf, Vegas), net handicap calculation, and zero-headache payout ledgers.
- Smartwatch Performance (20 Pts): Full-round battery drain, connection stability, aerial hole map rendering, and glanceability on the wrist.
- Price-to-Feature ROI (20 Pts): Total cost of ownership, recurring annual subscription value, and absence of deceptive feature paywalls.
3. Verified App Store Data
In addition to our editorial field test score, we monitor public user sentiment by tracking verified customer ratings across both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, calculating an unweighted store consensus average.
4. Editorial Independence
Our ratings, awards, and rankings are determined solely by on-course performance and value metrics. We never accept payment in exchange for higher scores or preferential rankings.
